About Athari Collective

Kenyan luxury, remade

Athari Collective is a sustainable fashion workshop in Nairobi. We take mitumba, the second-hand clothing that arrives in Kenya by the bale, and remake it by hand into contemporary pieces with an unmistakably Kenyan character. Some are runway-ready dresses and tailoring; others are bold streetwear for the city.

Why mitumba

Mitumba is the honest heart of our work. These are garments the world decided it no longer wanted. Many are beautifully made, with good cotton, sturdy denim and fine suiting hiding under a worn exterior. We sort, unpick and recut them, then bring them together with kitenge and kanga so they become something new rather than something discarded.

How we make

Every piece is cut and stitched in our Nairobi workshop. Because each garment starts from a different source, no two pieces are quite alike. Pieces marked "One of one" exist only once. Others are made in small numbers, with prints and patchwork that change from piece to piece.

Wearing the story

We make clothes for people who want what they wear to mean something: a clear cultural voice, a considered cut, and a second life for fabric that still has plenty to give. When you choose a remade piece, you carry that story with you.

Order with ease

Pay with M-Pesa at checkout and we will deliver to you within Nairobi or elsewhere in Kenya. If you have a question about sizing or a particular piece, message us on WhatsApp. We are happy to help.
